office 97 and vista business

Hello, I am trying to install office 97 on a dell laptop running vista business. When I click on the setup file I get the usual vista permission dialog box, I click allow but then nothing happens. The dialog box goes away but no installation screen comes up, there isn't even the setup process running in task manager.

Unfortunatly getting a newer version of office is not an option, and neither is going back to xp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Nathan.

You could try to turn off UAC and see if it works then. If not, it will never work. There were minor incompatibilities between Office 97 and Windows XP already, and they won't be smaller now.

Your only option then (if XP or Office 2000 aren't an option): free Open Office. Not a bad option, by the way.

How to disable UAC...

In reply to: re

One of many ways is as follows:

Method 1 - Using Control Panel

1. Click Start and then open Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety.
3. Click User Accounts.
4. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.

I disabled mine a long time ago... no adverse results and rid of the constant nuisance.

Hope this helps.

Glenn
