Office 2007, scroll lock in Excel

Jan 9, 2008 7:31PM PST

I'm using Vista Business and Office 2007. In Excel, scroll lock has been getting enabled by itself.

Could someone please tell me how to turn it off? I have one of the newer keyboards without the scroll lock key (Logitech MX-3200).

The only way I can turn it off is to reboot. Exiting and restarting Excel doesn't do it.

Thanks, John

Isn't that Scroll lock
Jan 9, 2008 7:39PM PST

combined into Fn+Pause/Break?

Use the browser's Find option to look for Scroll Lock.

Also, in Excel, there should be a space at the bottom right where the status bar is which highlights when Scroll Lock is on. You can click that to turn it off. It's right next to the Number Lock display.

I don't use Excel 2007 as I am still on Excel 2002, but I reckon that part would still be the same.

I actually tried both of those already. Fn+Pause/Break seems to do nothing, nor does clicking on the Scroll Lock icon at the bottom of the spreadsheet. Excel doesn't respond to either of those actions on my system, leading me to think there's something else going on here.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions,

John

Strange.

No, you're right, I've just re-checked my Excel and clicking the area where Scroll appears doesn't toggle it on and off. I thought it did.

All I can think of at the moment is drivers. Did the Logitech MX-3200 come with a driver CD? If so I wonder if the drivers didn't install correctly.

What about using Scroll lock, (the Fn +Pause/Break combination), in some other application like Word, or a non-Office application. Is this limited to just Excel, or to Office, or is it everything on your system?

If it works elsewhere, then the finger pointing changes to Excel. Does another generic keyboard work?

Other than those I have no other suggestions. Perhaps someone else here will do.

I downloaded the most recent keyboard driver, which didn't do it.

I have to figure out how to try using scroll lock in another application, as I only ever used it in Excel. I'll also try another keyboard when I get a chance.

Thanks - John

Solution

I have the same keyboard and the same problem around the same time (today)(not to mention the same initials)and found that you can disable the scroll lock by bringing up the Windows XP On-Screen Keyboard. Just click 'slk' and the problem should be solved. It's not ideal, but it's better than a restart.

Thanks for this, that's a pretty obscure solution, (how unlike Windows!?!) but worked, problem solved.
Thanks again!

How to turn off SCRL LOCK
Mar 12, 2008 1:14AM PDT

I was getting crazy, just like you!

Some guys recommends to look for some arrow keys and then pressing the Function key... it didn?t work. My IBM ThinkPad does not have something like that. Wikipedia tells you the story of this key, but does not tell you how to turn it off. Windows help, well, thats crap! as usual!!!

The best option that i found was bringing on the keyboard to screen:
Press Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Accessibility --> On-Screen Keyboard.

Then, just click SLK.

Now... go back to work!!!!

Thanks for the guys in this post, i just wanted to complement the instruction of how to see the keyboard in the screen.

You got me on the solution path!

I've been going insane trying to solve this problem on my MacBook and you got me on the right path. (And are the only one who did!)

It looked bad when my MacBook on-screen keyboard popped up, also with no F14 key, but I unwittingly discovered that Fn key in Keyboard Viewer toggles between the regular MacBook on-screen keyboard and an extended on-screen keyboard which HAS F14!

And then I shut off SCRL LOCK.

THANK YOU!

Thank you, even though I have a scroll lock button on my keyboard, the onscreen keyboard was the only thing that solved my issue!

The solution to fix the scroll lock that does not respond to anything that has already been tried is to simply hold the Alt key down and press the Scroll Lock Key Happy
