Office 2005?

Oct 1, 2004 10:29AM PDT

I am thinking to upgrade my Office 2000 suite to Office 2003. Does any one know if Microsoft is planning to release an Office 2005 version? If so, I can wait otherwise buy the Office 2003.

I don't expect a new version of Office soon. It might come with Longhorn, the successor of Windows XP, due somewhere in 2006/2007.

Can you tell which features of Office 2003 are compelling enough for you to upgrade from Office 2000?

Do you think it is beneficial to upgrade to 2003 if I already have 2000? I am a college student and I frequently use Word and Excel, sometimes FrontPage, and would like to start using Outlook to download my email from my school. Thanks!

No need to switch.

Swimmifish,

I should say your current software is perfectly suited to your needs, until the college tells you to use features of Office 2003, that aren't in 2000.

But 2003 is primarily a corporate version, with the most enhancements in interactions with all Microsoft server products on the corporate servers, so it doesn't seem likely anything of that would be needed for school work.

Good luck,

YES! I did, and haven't needed anything since. The whole xml format is great, and integrates all Office applications. Security's a whole lot better, it's fantastic, I wouldn't be able to go back to 2K, no way! I think people don' know it well enough at the moment, it's really made a whole difference in connectivity for me.

Lukas,

The page you reference is about Visual Studio 2005, not about Office 2005. In fact, it explicitely mentions in the first paragraph that it supports Office 2003.

I still do not expect a new release of Office to appear before the release of 'Longhorn', the successor to Windows XP.

We'll see.

Office 2005

I have went from Office 98 to Office 2000 to Office 2003 and once you switch to Office 2003, you won't even recognize the Office 98 program. It is amazing. The design is excellent, the navigation is super easy and there are so many new features.

I have noticed the most in PowerPoint. You can get many new design templates, new word animations and more. It is great.

I have Office 2003 Professional. It's a bit spendy, but worth it! My Office 2003 has Frontpage 2003, Access 2003, Outlook 2003, Excel 2003, Word 2003, InfoPath 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Publisher 2003..plus the Microsoft Clip Organizer 2003 and Windows Picture Viewer 2003 (amazing).

This is making me so mad. I waited all last year for a version of Microsoft Office 2004 and the only time it came out was for Macintosh.....

So all i have to ask is, IS THERE GONNA BE A VERSION OF MICROSOFT OFFICE 2005 FOR WINDOWS OR NOT????

I sure hope there is one because I am so tired of having versions of software that are just plain old...... i need something NEW.....
