Question

Office 2003

Jan 6, 2014 8:08PM PST

Fresh install of a legal copy of Office 2003, and I can't seem to get it activated. Activation Wizard says it can't detect an internet connection (I am on a LAN with no issues), and when I choose activate via telephone, it says that that is no longer supported.

How do I get activation done so I can use my legal product?

I read this is US number for Office activation issues: (88Cool 652-2342
Also see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929

I hope you get it done. Support for Office 2003 ends in April (together with XP). So you've got 3 more month to get it activated.

That number didn't show up for me in time to try it, but

after talking with MS Tech Support on live chat, he used 'remote' to enter the number for me....and never once pressed me to 'upgrade' to a newer version. He was really nice and very kindly helped me with this and a few other questions I had. In the meantime, I'm writing down that number as a 'just in case' for future reference and try-outs. Thanks.

Also...I had one helluva time trying to get Outlook 2003 to import mail from my OE storage area when I had tried to save them from the XP system. Fortunately, that computer is still up and running and I had Outlook 2000 installed on it from Office 2000, so I imported OE6 .dbx files to Outlook 2000.....then I exported from there to my flash drive. Took it to the W8 system, and ran into problems trying to now import them.........'unable to open the folder' over and over.... When I finally just tried "OPEN" and pointed to the .pst file itself, they all slammed right in.

I still have the same complaint with MS that I've always had......why can't error messages tell you in plain English what you've done wrong and give you the solution? As a matter of fact, W8 makes it even harder because when you use the "browse" window, you used to actually be able to click open the folder holding files so you could try different ones to get the job done...now it won't go any further in the tree than the folder itself. Stupid, stupid, stupid....
