Office 2000 and other older programs on Vista?

Jul 13, 2007 7:48PM PDT

I still use older programs like Office 2000, Quicken 2004 and a several year old calendar program on my 5 year old Pentium 4. I would like to get a new computer but don't want to have to upgrade and buy a bunch of new programs when these suit my purposes just fine. Will these programs run on the new Vista OS?

You can run the Vista adviser

on your computer to see if the programs will work. There is also a list of programs that don't work with Vista at Microsoft.com. I have Office XP installed on my Vista notebook and it works fine.

Yes on Office 2000.

I've seen that run without a hitch. Later they had trouble with Office Update but my hunch it was Norton in one case and a remnant of Office 2007 in the other.

As to Quicken 2004 I've read elsewhere it does run but the glitch I've run into (not just Vista) is the backup data was copied from CDR and they didn't know to uncheck the READ ONLY attribute on the files.

Hope this helps,

Bob
