OE6 newsgroup delete problem

Feb 18, 2004 1:46PM PST

In OE6 I can delete email but when I highlight a message in newsgroups delete X goes from red to gray and will not delete message. Delete on keyboard does not work either. This is only happening in newsgroup. I run WinXP Pro. Any ideas folks? Thanks.

Use "Ctrl D" to delete the newsgroup message.

Newsgroup readers are unlike Email programs. A newsgroup reader (in this case OE) doesn't offer such a feature.

What can explain the change is that some news servers allow one to cancel a message they sent. This is why OE may cycle as you post.

But the short answer is that nothing is really wrong. You'll want to ponder why a news reader is unlike your email program.

I must be misunderstanding something about your post, Bob, because it appears that you are saying that one cannot delete a newsgroup message from Outlook Express when that is indeed not the case.

It is not only possible to delete individual newsgroup messages from Outlook Express, it is quite simple to clean out all messages from a newsgroup folder and start afresh if one wishes to do so.

Perhaps what you were saying is that the method of deleting a newsgroup message is different from the method of deleting an e-mail message, i.e., there is no red X at the top of the screen as there is for e-mails?

This area varies with the newsreader software. And the message or rather "post" may return on the next update of the news reading.

The CANCEL message feature is up to the host of the news server...
