Many virus, trojans and other malware will pick a random name to hide out in and thwart easy identification. You may find the installed Antivirus has been disabled, so your next stop is the use of HOUSECALL to see if you can identify the bug.
Be sure to post in the Security Forum since this is not a Windows 98 only issue.
In the Security Forum and in Computer Help, the DOS BASED FPROT or another such virus scanner may have to be employed to track down the real name of the bug.
My mom's computer is running Windows 98 and has been getting a strange error as of late. It says that it can't find gjaxqj.exe (when any application is started) and because it can't find this, no applications will work. Oddly enough, the only applications that will work is when you open a saved document (i.e. I have a Word document that's saved on the desktop that will open, however if I try to open Word from the start menu, I get this error). I've tried searching Google and Microsoft (from a separate computer because I can't get online without an application starting), but nothing comes up. Help?!?!
