Question

Odd colors on Sony Bravia HDTV

Aug 19, 2015 11:33AM PDT

Sony Bravia - Model # 46S5100
Serial #:  8037490
Manufactured Date:  2009 - Mexico

When I turn on the TV, the picture displays a solid green, then blue, then red at this point the screen changes to horizontal lines displaying red, green, blue and white then the colors will start over and over again in sequence.  The picture will stay this way for about 3-5 minutes then the picture will appear but with ghost looking people on the screen. At times when the picture appears it is perfect.  Doesn't matter if the program I am watching is a HD or Digital channel.  There is no determination how long this picture will stay and frequently will revert back to the solid green, blue and red and horizontal lines of red, green, blue & white.   I have followed every suggestion that Sony has in its Q&A menus but, cannot figure out what is wrong.  I have done the instructions regarding correcting the issue with the Sony remote to no avail.  I have unplugged everything, checked the connections, powered down the cable box, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then powered up.  The TV will periodically have a wonderful picture all day and then the same thing happened over and over again.  Is it the TV or the cable box?   Oh, this TV, of course, is out of warranty.

Clarification Request
Did you try a different HDTV with that same cable box?

Understand, that's the only good way to be able to narrow down the issue. Ditto for trying different cables, HDMI ports & cable box/hardware.
