Odd behaviour of cursor

Oct 29, 2009 8:04AM PDT

I have an Acer Aspire 5920g laptop running Windows 7. To make typing easier I have been using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

When I type in I find that the cursor jumps all over the place and the characters I am typing get inserted where ever the cursor has decided to jump to.

I have watched what is happening and there have been no physical shocks to the keyboard or mouse to make the cursor jump.

It makes typing a nightmare and touch typing impossible.

What can I do to stop this strange behaviour?

Every time
Oct 29, 2009 8:36AM PDT

Every time I see this issue, it's with laptops where the trackpad on the laptop is still enabled, even though an external mouse is being used. A lot of times people rest their palm on the trackpad, and that registers as a mouse click.

If your external keyboard happens to have its own trackpad, then make very sure that you are not accidentally touching this in any way.

Odd behavior of Windows 7 and IE8
Oct 30, 2009 7:00AM PDT

As this happens when I am using a separate keyboard and mouse and the lid of the laptop is closed there is no possibility of my touching it.

However it could still be some interference between the two inputs.

How do I disable the touchpad on my Aspire 5920G laptop?

I have looked in the manual but I could not find any help there.

I don't have a laptop with windows 7, but here is the most likely place for it...

Go to "control panel", then select "hardware and sound," then under "devices and printers" there should be a selection for "mouse." It would most likely be under one of those tabs. Again not having a laptop, I would guess that it is under the "pointer options" tab.
