Question

Oculus Rift in separate room from PC

Aug 9, 2018 8:45PM PDT

So I have an oculus rift and my pc is in my room where my desk is, but the room is quite too small to use the rift efficiently. So i was deciding on extending my headset/sensors/touch to my living room mounted through the ceiling. but ive seen many posts about how the oculus rift is very sensitive to usb degradation and may not work if the cables are too long. as far as measurements go i would need at least 30 foot long usb and hdmi cables to route to my living room. does anyone know if it should still work effectively at that length? headset sensors and the touch controllers?

Answer
I'm not sure if this will help.

Watch Linus at the following video and the devices they used to connect more than one VR set. Maybe, just maybe those will get you the distance you crave.

Unfortunately they dont seem to be using extenders or at least not mentioning them so no luck on that one. although at least now i know i can buy a 4 usb usb dock.

And no, it was called an extender but it did get you more distance was the KVM at this point in the video.

There are also other bits and pieces to get this all rigged up in the video where the distances are more than a few feet.

KVM

I see what you mean, it could probably help extend the system a little bit but at a very high price point just for the kvm. what im worried about is cable degradation at 30ft on the extension cables because they could possibly too long (at least thats what ive heard) . thats not including the cable that comes with the sensors/oculus. im just worried because with the cost of all the cables combined it would total out at over $150 and for them to not work with the oculus would be very dissapointing.

This is often why

I buy on Amazon Prime so I can return it if it doesn't work.

HDMI here has easily gone to 50 feet. As to costs, I don't expect this to be cheap.
