OCR Software and Hardware

Nov 23, 2009 1:19AM PST

Can anyone recommend/suggest a good OCR software package and also an OCR hardware "wand"-type scannning device, rather than a flatbed scanner, that work well together? (I'm interested in importing text and graphics into Word.) Thx!

Have you checked www.ocrworld.com? It is a good resource for information about OCR software and technology.

Wand-hardware should come with decent OCR software

but if it doesn't, FreeOCR had a very decent software program that lets you import graphics, then convert to text in a very easy UI format. All you do is click an icon to import a graphic, click again to use OCR function, click again to copy to clipboard.

I recommend Readiris Pro 12 for either Mac or Windows. Works really good on both platforms. Their website is www.irislink.com.
