Obama calls American blacks, "Mongrels"

Jul 31, 2010 5:32AM PDT

Poor choice of words? Open mouth, insert foot, twist sideways....

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/111611-obama-calls-african-americans-a-mongrel-people-

President Obama waded into the national race debate in an unlikely setting and with an unusual choice of words: telling daytime talk show hosts that African-Americans are ?sort of a mongrel people.?

The president appeared on ABC?s morning talk show ?The View? Thursday, where he talked about the forced resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod, his experience with race and his roots.

When asked about his background, which includes a black father and white mother, Obama said of African-Americans: "We are sort of a mongrel people."

context is everything...
Jul 31, 2010 6:32AM PDT

"I mean we're all kinds of mixed up," Obama said. "That's actually true of white people as well, but we just know more about it."

impeach him... IMPEACH HIM !

... and you wonder why people don't post on SE anymore?

Oh, thank you
Jul 31, 2010 10:51AM PDT

Now we know the president thinks we are all mongrels. Why not "hybrids"?

- Collapse -
I'd rather be a mongrel tahna hybrid...
Jul 31, 2010 12:19PM PDT

anyway it's more accurate. Hybrid sounds like cross-species. Anyway, I thought this was supposed to be the post-racial Presidency.

And who wants to be like one of those crappy little cars?

You're barking up the wrong tree.

could you explain "reptilian brain" comment?
Aug 3, 2010 7:11AM PDT

I've googled and youtubed it and keep coming up with weird stuff about Annunaki, Nephilim, Alien Abductions, UFO activity, especially Illuminati stuff about pure races vs Adamic races mixed with the reptile race, etc. Just what the heck does Obama believe in that prompts such odd comments from him? Mongrels and reptilian brains, all in the same breath?!

There's a profound difference between calling a group
Aug 3, 2010 2:36AM PDT

"a mongrel people" with the adjective "mongrel" modifying the noun "people". and calling the same group "mongrels" a noun with its direct connection to the animal world. That is a flat out racist statement.

Obama's subsequent statement that Whites are comprised of multiple strands of cultural background including black to many people's surprise.

Hitler used it both ways

Huh, and you're supposed to be a historian. Check it out.

- Collapse -
Which is your excuse for employing it here?
Aug 3, 2010 6:00PM PDT

You need to research your excuses, because "It's not my fault, Hitler used it first" isn't a defence, it's more of a condemnation". And of course you're drawing an equivalency between Hitler and Obama. A said X and B said something that can be twisted into X, therefore A=B. Take a good course in logic before you throw allegations and innuendoes around, at least they won't be so blatant.

Obama was talking about a socially and racially mixed constituent group in both conspicuous populations, not in order to scape goat one group for being at the root of all evil but to explain that neither population was a monolith of purity, but of homogeneity.

President Obama's background is simple compared to a lot of Americans.

please read first post,.....first.

No excuse needed when the President says it, to mention it here. What's your excuse?

I may have misunderstood you.

"It's not my fault, Hitler used it first" isn't a defence, it's more of a condemnation".

I realize now you were condemning Obama. Good job!

Could have done better
Jul 31, 2010 6:36AM PDT

but we're all mongrels and it doesn't harm us. I've got Irish blood in me and as a race we are a mix of Germanic, Nord, French, Danish, and if I go back further to Roman times, no doubt Latin and North African blood.

I'm quite proud of my mongrel heritage! Happy

Not at all the same thing
Aug 1, 2010 11:34PM PDT

Obama was talking about his own race at first, then included whites as well. The gist was that we, as Americans, are all a mix of different heritages. He didn't single out "the other race," as your Rush example does.

- Collapse -
....then included whites as well
Aug 1, 2010 11:45PM PDT

Believe me, Rush could qualify it and expand on it any way you want and he'd still be pilloried. You know it's true.

It doesn't matter what he says. There have been lots of lies and distortions told about him already.

so Rush can now use "mongrels"?
Aug 2, 2010 1:05AM PDT

Maybe you could send that OK to him on a greeting card.

this is starting to look funny
Aug 2, 2010 1:03AM PDT

In the sense of silliness. Liberals trying to justify Obama's use of racist terms. I never thought I'd see the day, but then again, I should have realized it would come eventually. Obama can do no wrong for liberals, even when he calls them "mongrels" with "reptilian brains". We've finally reached the ultimate culimination of the path liberalism has lead America down? Can the pendulum swing much further that way before it starts to swing back to correct the foolishness?

who said this?
Aug 2, 2010 1:36AM PDT
More worrisome is the American Seventh Army. It is sweeping toward Munich--the birthplace of my beloved Nazi Party! Yet, the Americans too shall be driven back, as they are an inferior race, a mongrel peoples who are lacking in courage and have no will to fight.

Well, it's the same person who due to abuse of the past and the hard life he faced growing up, also felt he had some right derived from that greater than others, as evidenced below. He was not justified by his past, nor his bloodline, nor is Obama. I haven't even posted some of the more offensive uses of the word "mongrel" by him.

Did we not know, even as little boys, that this Austrian state had no love for us Germans? Did not my father teach me, with the whip, that he hated all things German? Was not Vienna visibly becoming more and more an un-German city?
I hated Austria, this mongrel state. I hated the Hapsburgs. And I hated school. I was filled with hate. Hate hate and more hate. I was choking with hate.
My father hated the German people and he labored to turn my mother against her Catholic faith. My father forced her to turn against her own children.
Because of my father, she abandoned me to the care of Angela, my older half-sister. Then she abandoned us all, because of my father.
I can still remember the day that Edmund died. Edmund, my little six year old brother. Did we not know, even as little boys, that this Austrian state had no love for us Germans? Did not my father teach me, with the whip, that he hated all things German? Was not Vienna visibly becoming more and more an un-German city?

I can still remember the day that Edmund died. Edmund, my little six year old brother. And I remember the day he was buried, alone in the ground.
I stood there, alone, watching as the earth swallowed up my rival.
And where was my mother? With her "uncle," visiting in the town, while her dead son was buried in the sacred earth.
My brother, Edmund, died at age 6, when I was 11.
This was a confusing time. After six long years of wishing for his death, he died.
Yes, I wished it. I was staggered by my power.
Edmund, like my father, had come between me and my mother. Edmund, sickly Edmund was her new darling.
Yes, my rival was now dead, and I was beset by guilty feelings.
And my mother, like the fickle Goddess of Fate, had now abandoned us both. It was not her fault, but my father's.
Edmund died in March of 1900, at the dawn of the new century, and was buried in the church graveyard. But neither my mother or my father attended the funeral. Instead, they spent the day in Linz, on holiday.
I stood there alone, during a driving snowstorm, watching them lower my rival into the ground.
My father never even provided him with a tombstone or marker.
I have always hated snow.
But then, Edmund's death, this too was Providence. Destiny. I was the second son, the only one who lived. There were no rivals. I alone had been chosen --so spoke the Voice!
