NVidia incompatibility displays pictures wrong!!!

Nov 24, 2003 1:03AM PST

On the simplest of apps, NVidia screws up the "pictures" for buttons. Kazaa Lite, MSN Messenger, and Nero 6 all have their buttons with weird black backgrounds. For example, the offline symbol that is usually red (in MSN), is now green, and the "away" symbol is exactly the same as the "online" one with a black blob where the clock usually rests on the little guys shoulder. In Kazaa Lite, the "download", "pause", and "cancel" buttons are all pure black.

I think this is NVidia's fault because when I uninstall their drivers (the newest ones), the problem goes away. I also tried to use an older version of their drivers (45.xx something) and I had the same problems as the newer one gave me. This could be an incompatibility thing since I never had these problems before downloading the lastest of the Window's Updates, so I think the problem is a combination of the Window's Updates downloads, and the NVidia drivers.

If you know any more information, or have experienced this problem yourself, please feel free to help Grin. (also if you know the solution to the problem, all the better Grin:D)

Thanks, Romi Strub

i don't think it is a good idea to remove the Windows update, so i think you need to complain to NVidia. i can't see doing much else. you may also try updating versions of DirectX, but this is a one-way update. if you don't like it or it crashes, you haven't got any alternatives except doing a clean install unless you have a backup to restore from.

I have the latest version of directX and I'm not sure whether this is NVidia's fault or not... for some reason MSN is displaying correctly now, but everything else remains strange as always Sad

Thanks again, Romi

well, it's definitely the video drivers, and i don't know if there is anything you can really do about it. try going into Display Properties|Advanced|Performance and start reducing the slider for hardware acceleration to see if that helps.
