Nvidia graphics card on Vista laptop -- running Dawn of War?

Oct 2, 2007 8:57PM PDT

Hey

Nvidia does not come with the correct drivers for the DOW to see it happen. I know there are lots of threads about this on the web. The thing is, almost every one of them recommends downloading the driver from the web, but I have a Laptop (Dell Inspiron 1420 with Nvidia 8400 graphics card) and the drivers directly from Nvidia won't work. I need to go the dell site, but the one that is there is outdated and fails to work.
Does anybody have any solutions?

Thanks!

Aet

Try...

1. Turn off AERO. I'm having some success doing that since it frees up the GPU and RAM for your game.

2. Search the forums for your game. Sometimes you find someone has hacked the Nvidia driver for your laptop.

In closing the missing details from your post stop me from looking for you.

Thanks, I got it now. There is a 'quick and dirty hack' one can use. If anybody ever gets this error, try:

here is the actual doc u must replace if there is no other alternative, post 9

You need to register, check your spam for the activation email, then go to the post and download the file. It takes around 5 minutes to do and voila, DOW can suddenly sense your Nvidia card.

alternatively, you can just go into the file and allow all drivers to function by changing the allowdevice 0s to 1

begin version 0x0000 0x000D
allowdevice 1
end
begin subversion 0x0000 0x0009
allowdevice 1
end

begin build 0x0000 0x1459
allowdevice 1
end

which basically changes it from certain drivers to ALL drivers compatibility. I think.
its in C:\Program Files\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\Drivers
for me. Shouldn't be too hard to find. the file name is spdx9_config.

Good luck, and thanks!
