Resolved Question

Nvidia geForce 6100 GO Windows 7 x86 Problems

Aug 20, 2011 2:40PM PDT

I recently bought a HP DC7700 with a built in nvidia geforce 6100 Go graphics card. I installed the windows x86 driver from windows update because it is not available anywhere else. Everything looked fine but then when I go to play a video with windows media player or videolan there is no video just a black space.

Also when I start windows media center there is nothing but a black screen in both full and partial screen mode.

When areo is enabled the computer wont even display the desktop so I use the windows classic them.

The system has 2gb ram with 500mb used at start up and an amd x64 processor, this problem occurred on a x64 windows 7 I had installed before and still occurs on the x86 windows 7. I know the geforce 6100 go has enough power to play a video and do areo so I am at my wits end.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just like other makers.

You find drivers for the OS's they shipped with.

But today it's getting worse because companies outsource the driver work and don't get the right to use the drivers forever. HP had to remove a lot of drivers for HP printers last year because they didn't renew the license.

At least the printers were well beyond their service life which didn't sit well with those that had working printers but had forgotten to fetch drivers and have them handy.

OK about the iq770. SAME ADVICE. Install 7, what ever drivers and BIOS FIRMWARES and then try the Vista drivers. And same advice on the video if that fails. Install a card.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 Graphics
Aug 21, 2011 7:59AM PDT

I can't find the IQ770 with the 6100 Go.

This makes me wonder if you have yet to install the motherboard chipset drivers. You'll discover that windows will not properly identify a lot of gear until that's done first.

Again, can't find the Iq770 with the 6100. It makes me think that someone is using the device manager or something else to determine it's a 6100.

There Are No Chipset Drivers
Aug 22, 2011 10:09AM PDT

I could not find any chipset drivers on the HP website or google. Also the bios updates failed due to incompatibility.

I got the graphics card name from the devise manager the looked up the hardware numbers and both said its a geforce go 6100.

I'm going to contact hp directly explain the problem and ask them if they have more current drivers, hopefully they do.

This is starting to sound like a HP with the wrong board.

Interesting machine.

It looks like this machine has folk searching and failing to find Windows 7 drivers.

My advice is to install the OS it came with.

I agree
Aug 23, 2011 6:16AM PDT

I agree vista is the best option but I really dislike that OS.

I got an email back from hp but all they did was link me to the vista drivers.

It all boils down to a chipset issue for sure. The incorrect driver for the chipset is causing other devises to be recognized incorrectly.

I will spend a little more time looking for the actual chipset driver for windows 7 but I think the final solution is to just downgrade the whole thing to lame old vista.

Thanks a lot for the help though,

They Dont Have The Driver
Aug 21, 2011 5:27AM PDT

I already searched the nvidia website and they do not have the driver. I read several online forums and they said you have to use the windows update driver...

For the record the computer name is actually IQ770 NOT DC7700.
