Nvidia 8800gt not running at max

I bought an nvidia 8800 gt (the 512) several months ago. When i installed it and started using it, i realized my old 6800 was better at games like WoW or Oblivion. Im using xp. could it be because of an incompatibility with directx9.0c or a mobo problem?

What did you do to install the new 8800 GT? Did you merely take out the old card and install the new one leaving everything else the same or what? I realize that they both should work with the same driver but there may be a better driver for the new card.

i really just followed the directions. removed old card, put in new one, hooked up power cables, turned comp on and installed the driver that came with the card.
