numlock laptop problem

by thepeskydingo / July 24, 2008 10:43 AM PDT

my problem is i have an HP dv9000 laptop, and whenever i have the numlock on the number pad on, it makes my "jkluio" keys show up as "123456" sometimes holsing the "fn" key and hitting the numlock works, but usually(98% of the time) it doesnt.

is there some keyboard driver that got messed up somewhere along the line?

Why three? Thought that should cover all known versions of Windows.

Ok, so maybe I am being misunderstood, and maybe I am just really illiterate in what you are trying to tell me to do.

I have a laptop, it is the dv9000. It has a keyboard and a number pad on it. My problem is, when I turn the number lock on the numpad on, the keys on my keyboard "jkluio" turn into "123456". i can turn off the numlock and it goes back to normal, but i would like to have the numlock on and be able to type on my keyboard as well. I read somewhere that holding my function key and pressing numlock is supposed to fix it, so i tried that, and it works once in a great while, and only for a short time period.

Forgive me if your solutions address this, but I thought I would just clarify my dilemma, and then go back to trying to figure it out.

Thanks for helping so far guys! I really appreciate it!

The solution I offered was to get around what appeared to be a faulty numlock key.

As it stands the numbers are proper for when the numlock is turned on.

Sadly the dv9000 is a series of some hundred models. I can't guess which one.

numlock doesn't work on my laptop

I have a problem with using numlock on my HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop. It has numbers seporately as a regular keyboard. When I press numlock, it activates numbers where letters located instead of numbers on the right hand side. What I have to do to fix that problem?

Hello!

Did you ever get your problem fixed? I've had my laptop for over a year and it worked just fine, but a while ago, I have the same problem as you have, when the numlock is on, my keyboard changes to a numeric keyboard. I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution. It's not the BIOS or a virus or XP, but I believe it's a combination of keys to push to stop this nonsence.

Thanks!

Did you try it with the numlock off? On many laptops you have to press and hold the Fn button then tap the Numlock to turn it off.
