Numerous problems with Samsung entertainment system. HELP

Feb 22, 2009 2:47AM PST

I've become pretty frustrated with a few things that I keep running into over and over.
I have a
LN46A650 TV
BD-P2500 BD player
HT-AS720ST A/V receiver.

Why do these three products not like each other?
I have all of them connected to one another with HDMI cables (1.3b)
BD player is set for: DVD = HDMI1 Setup: HDMI audio = AVR
Sound set for Audiophile in setup.
Satellite: HDMI2 Setup HDMI audio = AVR
Anynet off on all products.

First of all, most every time I switch from my satellite or turn the BD player on along with the receiver, it says Mode not supported and I have to turn the receiver off and on to get the BD player to come up on screen. If I have the BD player set for 1080p, it kicks it to 1080i.

Secondly I have no surround sound. I have my speakers setup for L rear and R rear. If I use my satellite I have sound from the rear speakers if I cycle through the different modes on the reciever (IE cinema, matrix.. etc...). No sound in rear speakers using the BD player.

The Netflix feature on my BD player has no sound at all.

Ive updated the firmware on my BD player via ethernet successfully.

I'm shocked that my Sat receiver works better with the HT-AS720ST then my BD player.... Please help!

Checking..

owall83,

I wanted you to know that I'm checking on this, and haven't missed (and more importantly, haven't ignored) your post.

I wanted to clarify my own thoughts with one of our product experts to see what I could suggest. Stay tuned.

Hookup...
Feb 25, 2009 3:18PM PST

owall83,

I've checked into this a little, as this has been a common issue and I wanted to double check with your exact model. Thanks for your patience.

For issue #1: The best way to connect to pass the 1080p straight through is to hook the Blu-Ray player directly to the television. I'm not sure why it keeps bumping down the resolution to 1080i. But the best way to set it up is to run Blu-Ray directly to the television, and then use the optical out on the Blu-Ray to the input on the receiver.

Here are the official set-up recommendations are listed here:

For issue #2: (which ties into #1), I'd recommend an optical audio cable from the Blu-Ray to the AZ720 unit. This will allow the unit to pass the audiophile bitstream, and should fix the issue.

Keep me posted.

I'll have to try this over the weekend. I'll get back to you next week. Thanks for looking into this. I appreciate it.

Optical working, still problesm with surround sound.
Feb 28, 2009 12:07PM PST

OK

So going directly to the TV with the HDMI cable are keeping my BD player from reverting to 1080i and I no longer get the mode not supported message. I still do not get surround sound and I noticed something. When I'm playing a BD my reciever shows the image of what speakers are functioning and it shows FR Center LR SW SR and SL but not the rear speakers. I have a feeling if I plugged my speaker cables in the SL and SR channels in the reciever I would get sound since in every other case (including the BD menus) the rear speakers are included in that image and are functioning. From what I understand 5.1 includes the rear speakers and 7.1 includes rear and surround speakers. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Owen

Hope you got your sound working

Owen:
I have the identical system (except I have a 40" A650 LCD). My AV Receiver has a bad HDMI port and a couple other bad connections (probably due to the deficient styrofoam packaging in th box that the system came in). That said, the system works great and the sound is awesome, so if you are still having problems I could go over my connections.
The best thing I did to get my system operating was to get a Logitech Harmony One remote. It makes my HT very enjoyable without having to remember each different setup.
