NTLDR loader is not found?

by steve11375 / August 23, 2006 7:08 AM PDT

Hi all,

A couple weeks ago I had a problem where I got during a boot NTLDR loader not found(to this day not sure why that happened). Hit any key to continue but I just got the same thing over & over. I tried many things but ultimately formatted my hard drive to get thru it (that's difficult for a person with little experience like me). I'm using window's XP pro SP2+ installed on a Dell computer.

My question is this, I found microsoft article KB555304 which kind of explained how to make a bootable floppy, is there a way to create a bootable CD since my machine doesn't have a floppy but I do have a CD burner?

The article states I need these files NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM and another article said I ALSO need BOOT.INI. Where are these files on my C drive so I can copy them off to a CD & burn them? I did a search & expanded the search to include hidden files but I can't seem to find them, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much,
Steve

The XP CD is bootable and
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / August 23, 2006 7:13 AM PDT

Has the recover console which you can copy such files into C:.

But you shared so much except the exact error message. Have you tried XP REPAIR INSTALL as noted on google.com?

In closing, if you don't have a XP CD or have some OEM CD I can't tell. Details are slim here so my advice may be unuseful.

Hi Bob,

For some reason I had a problem getting into Recovery Console from my XP SP2 CD, I think the problem was an administrator password which I don't have on my system as I'm the only user and never set one up. But if I just hit return NO password, it fails?

My info is slim because I don't know a lot of details, so let me start again. I got a message on a reboot which said NTLDR not found press any key to restart which was an unending loop. I have a dell OEM CD (with XP PRO & SP2) which I got from DELL with SP2 but I can't seem to get to recovery console (because of the administrator password which I do NOT have), so I'll ask the question AGAIN, is there a way to copy the 3 files I need from my C drive NTLDR, NTDETECT & BOOT.INI to a CD, I'm sorry if I'm not providing all the info you need but I appreciate any help

Ouch. You need to look at...
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / August 23, 2006 9:45 AM PDT

1. XP REPAIR INSTALL on google.com

2. That password is a nasty issue. Fortunately I can get around it with my Windows 2000 CD and it's Recovery Console. (Handy CD to add to your arsenal someday)

3. Look up XP LOST PASSWORD on google.com for a tool to set that password.

Somewhere I think you'll crack this open.

Hmmmm I need some hand holding here
by steve11375 / August 23, 2006 10:25 AM PDT

Hi Bob,

You seem to really understand this and I guess I need someone to hold my hand just a little to get thru this, and I'm sorry if I'm SLOW on the uptake.

I'll ASK a third time & if I'm being STUPID please tell me.

I want to get on a CD NTLDR NTDETECT.COM & BOOT.INI, where can I get these 3 files from my C drive? Or do these files only exist on my XP SP2 OEM CD? I guess the bottom line is HOW do I create a bootable CD to get around my original problem of NTLDR loader not found?

Thanks,
Steve
