General discussion

NTFS or FAT32

Jun 26, 2005 4:30PM PDT

I am going to install a new 160gb hard drive and was wondering whether to use NTFS or Fat 32 files. I have read a little bit about this and I don't have a particular need to run either system. So just in general should I use Fat32 or NTFS. Also I wanted to partition the drive to dual boot and wanted to use xp pro as the o/s on both I'm not sure if I can do this.

While Microsoft still has some catching up to do with other file system technologies, NTFS beats FAT32 hands down. If you are going to use a large drive (> 40gig), NTFS is the best route. Also, NTFS offers better security. If you are the inquisitive type, NTFS.COM is a good place to start. Microsoft's site is also a good place to learn about NTFS and how it may be used.
