Put in the new hard disk and restore the system.
Put the old drive as a slave or in some external enclosure and get your files out.
-> Sadly you used the restore CDs before saving your files. The final fate of your files is now unknown.
Somehow my desktop vers of XP got screwed up by trying to do a repair. My recovery disc stopped at 34 min. so it did not continue obviously. ...but in that process, I can no longer get into xp. There must have been some vital file preventing me to do so, but i do not know which. I did use floppy starter to see at command prompt if my folders were still in tact...it does not show up and i later learned NTFS does not show folders, although they are there. Now, i was thinking of copying those folders to another hd, cause i have many vital files...aka pictures and email info, i would like to retain. Does anyone know how I can view and copy those files to another hd, even though they don't show up in my floppy starters? The C drive shows only 2 small directories. But I did see all of them at one time with a cd recovery disk when I get as far as trying to repair it.
