Hi Julea,

The topic that you are requesting to be deleted has post-reply. Are you sure you still want to delete it? IMHO and a suggestion only, no need to delete it because there is a discussion going-on.

Thanks and Hugs,

Donna

Thanks Donna -- might as well leave. While I have you, I hope you know how much I appreciate you here at the forum. Am I correct ---- did I read something that you are having the privilege of testing Longhorne? How great. I'm still using Windows 98SE and for what I do, no reason to change. I help teach XP for our local computer club -- it's neat too. Knock on wood, ye trusty computer has been behaving quite well for the past year. I've had it 4 -- guess it took 3 years for it to learn what I wanted it to do (LOL)! See you later.

Hi again Julea,
Great to hear that you find XP as neat system. I like XP stability. Never seen Blue screen of death with XP. Win2000 is a good OS too. Its product lifecycle is still a-ok.

Yes, I'm testing Longhorn WinHEC. MVP awardees and MSDN subscribers has the chance to try Longhorn. Microsoft targets the year 2006 (still far) for Longhorn availability to customers. More info at their PressPass page. "Playing" with Longhorn is fun.

Sure you'll find it easy to play with Longhorn later on because you know XP well. Look and feel is different but it's more like XP.

Hugs,
Donna

I did read an article in our local paper not long ago that there is some thought as to whether the next OS will be made available to home users or retain for professional use only. Is there anything to that?

home users as well, Julea.

I mean imagine Mr. Gates missing that opportunity?

lol.

in any event open source o/s are increasing some in popularity so he needs to retain market share.

from the little I know it has this great file system that is totally compatible with the NTFS found in XP.

so I imagine XP users may have the opportunity to 'upgrade' to Longhorn.

Donna can maybe shed more light on the subject given that she is beta testing it.

if you subscribe to some of the ZdNet/ CNet articles there is some interesting reading to be had.

be well, Julea.
