General discussion

(NT) I am a 1st time buyer and I need feedback please...

May 10, 2006 11:22PM PDT

I am looking at the 12x zoom compact camera market and am torn between: Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H2, Canon PowerShot S2 IS and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

side by side comparison

I did a side by side comparison at dpreview.com. I decided on the H1 (H2's predecessor) because they were very similar but I did not want the flip-out LCD screen, with a 2 year old I saw it as something that could be broken off. It seems that these are all very good and you may choose by a smple difference like I did. I'm thrilled wih the camera.

I didn't know the H1 had a flat LCD, which I like better.

My choices were the same

I have been looking at these cameras now for months! When I finally read everyones reviews on any web sight I could find I started leaning toward the Canon. I did not like the Panasonic in my hands, it is very light weight and does not have a good feel in your hand.
I am a big Sony buyer..tv, camcorder, digital camera so its very hard for me to go to a different brand since my memory stick can plug right into my tv and play slide shows. But the sony camera will give you some funky colors if you do not have the right lighting. But I did like the feel of the camera in my hand.
So now I am down to the Canon S2 IS or the S3 IS, since there is not much of a difference...little bigger LCD in the 3 (but not much), and the price is about $80-100 difference for practically the same camera.
Dont know if that helped at all, but getting your hands on the camera really made the difference for me.
