i would suggest getting a plastation 3.
1) for %50 more than the cost of a typical pc, you can get something that is a great value ( I mean, think about it It's a blu-ray player, video game system, and a supercomputer put together. that starts to get pretty pricey when buying all of those things individually (around $100,000)).
2) the ps3 isn't affected by viruses
3) it comes with the ability to play HD games standard(you'd have to invest about $20,000 to build a custom alienware pc that can do that).
It's your choice. Make the one that's best for you!
The PS3 can Run Yellowdog Linux:

So at $600 it's a very very cheap for a PC. Plus the blu-ray. Forget about games. lol
I'm going to ask CNET to do a Review on the PS3 as a PC with Yellowdog installed on it.
If you only want to surf the net and play games - then buy the PS3. If you want to do that plus watch HD content as well, then buy the PS3.
However, if you you use the PS3 to surf the net, then you better be prepared to shell out some cash on a bluetooth wireless keyboard and/or mouse. Surfing the net with a game controller is....um...punishing.
However, if you want to use Excel, word or download other cool software to use...such as Google Earth, or iTunes, or software to support other non-Sony electronic devices then buy a PC. You can get some clone desktops dirt cheap these days which would include a good graphics card.
The bottom line is that I find it really bizzare how some people are calling the PS3 as the death or demise of PCs. It can do really basic stuff PCs do, but it is far from replacing them.
As I said, it really depends on what you really want to use the device for.
im planning on playing games, using aim\talking to friends, using the internet, because the games i play are computer games like bf2,WoW,counter strike source\counter strike 1.6,diablo 2 ,starcraft. so yeah im kinda confused because the ps3 looks soo cool and stuff.
Dunno if the PS3 will ever do WoW, older PC games, and IM. The internet stuff likely, but not the PC games. It seems wasteful to get a PS3 only b/c it looks cool. It doesn' sound like many of the games u want are on there. Heck, the PC games you want can run on <$600 PC hardware, probably monitor included. I'm sure HD is nice, but u'll also need to factor in a $1000+ HD TV/proj if u don't alr own one.
I been a strictly PC gamer for 10 years or so, and sometimes a game will work well and then another game won't and I'll need to upgrade something like memory or another video card(high end video cards can cost as much as a PS3)but at least I got something to show for it.And I like to do it.Then I look at a console , just buy or "RENT" a video game? and you can just play and it will work smoothly? No hoping it will work like the demo you downloaded. But with a PC there is more life in a game with mods and MMOG's. It probably boils down to if you just want to play games get a console, and if you like to tinker and tweak things a PC would be your choice.
