tried it...

Son#1 tried it a few years ago. He wanted to convert a diesel car (an old Chevy Suburban) to waste veggie oil, and started with an attempt at homebrew. The chemistry was finicky and messy, and the alcohol residue in the fuel did a number on the rubber fuel line fittings. So he changed it to a preheated plain WVO cutover. Still a messy approach, just a different kind of mess. Since then, bio-diesel blends have become more readily available at conventional gas stations, perhaps the commercial blends have alleviated the alcohol/rubber problems, and most newer diesel cars are being built with non-rubber fuel lines and fittings, so any alcohol residue in the fuel is of no consequence anymore.

What I don't like is the "big talk" of it being available yet its not in the area. AND if it is its some gas station way over the other side or basically too far away. I have a large truck, 2 tractors and at one time a VW rabbit. I figured some degradation of the fuel lines but since its suppose to be available and bio-diesel is readily usable for std. disel engines, maybe yours was too rich in alcohol. Heck, seems like too much trouble until it gets next door at the station sorta speak. Thanks -----Willy

Buy agricultural diesel run that in your truck. Have a friend with a farm? Put a tank on it and have the cheaper diesel delivered there and stop by for fillups.
