now I have a problem

I found what I was looking for(aol 9.0SE) but after it downloads all I get is the sign in page and it freezes there,I have to shut it all down and turn it back on and unistall it in order to get back online. My win/xp came with aol 9.0 optimized can I unistall that and not lose all my favorites and download SE?? Optimized is to dam slowwwwwwwww.

think so. Usually, to keep prior settings..etc.., it requires you to install "on top" of a prior version. Another "usually". Software apps rarely allow "lesser" versions to be installed over a later version. The only way would be to determine what AOL files hold the settings (usually an .ini file). Unless someone else here can do better you're stuck with this.

AOL is your ISP and has nothing to do with your favorites.I believe favorites or bookmarks are in your browser.

I would not use AOL with their restrictions LINK
