Hi,
My young son got a secondhand laptop and I cleaned it up using cc cleaner malwarebytes etc and all was fine. Now it works fine in safe mode i.e. browsing files internet etc but in normal mode it lags and freezes especially when loading firefox but IE is also slow. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail. I've ran spybot/malwarebytes and avast seperately in safe mode and no virus found. Is it just age?? it's a fujitsu siemens esprimo mobile, intel(R) celeron(R) CPU 550@2.00ghz 2.00 ghz. 2gb RAM with vista home basic SP2 32bit. Firefox help says "Direct 2D + Web GL Renderer + GPU accelerated windows are blocked for my graphics card because of unresolved driver issues but the device manager says drivers are up to date. Thanks in advance.

Device manager has never been good at driver updates.

You'll want to get the drivers from the maker's web site next.

PS. Vista on 2GB

Well, you have a single core CPU, VISTA and 2GB ram. It will be laggy and all that. I'm unsure how to break it to folk that compare such a machine to one that works well.

If you've run a registry cleaner, that's the problem
Jan 7, 2013 7:08AM PST

CC Cleaner is a good utility program as long as you don't let it try to clean the registry. If you or your son did that, that's likely the problem. Registry cleaners are snake oil that do no noticable good and can cause problems that're extremely difficult to diagnose and resolve. Celeron processors are known to be slow. If I had a computer that'd had a registry cleaner run on it, I'd back up any data I wanted to keep and reinstall Windows.

Good luck.
