I have a Toshiba Satellite 1135-s1554 notebook. Recently the OS predicted a hard drive failure. Replacing the hard drive and reinstalling the OS would have been simple, but the DVD/CDRW combo drive on the notebook has been broken for sometime. It is recognized and device manager says its functioning properly, but it wont read any disks put into the drive. I got a couple replacement DVD drives, the exact part number that came stock with the computer, that is it is the same part as the original, and both of the new drives are not recognized by the computer once the original broken drive is taken out and the new ones put in. I'm almost positive that one or both of these drives work fine, as they draw power from the notebook and they can be heard spinning. I'm wondering if theres maybe some SCSI configurations that need to be changed or something along those lines. Any hints on how to make the notebook recognize the replacement DVD combo would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
