I'm not sure if this is possible with built in software... Windows 7, and possibly MS Office 2010, have some touchscreen support, but Vista, XP, etc, have next to nothing in this area. I am fairly certain Office 2007 doesn't support it either. SO, yes, you will probably need specialized software.
I am researching buying a used notebook or slate. What I most need to know, after reading all kinds of reviews on all kinds of models, is how to utilize the unit. What I want to use this for is filling out a report/form. I have created the form myself in three formats: Word, Excel and PDF. What I want to do is check the boxes as I go and on few occasions I will need to make notes. Here's what I need to know: is it easy to use the stylus to click a box (thus adding a check-mark) and can I simply write on the lines provided on the Word/Excel/PDF form and have my writing turned into text? If not, does the unit need to have a particular software to translate my writing and check-marks, or do most units have this as part of their software/OS provided? Is it easy to insert pictures as it is in Word or does the notebook/slate setup make this more difficult?
