Notebook for office

Mar 20, 2005 10:06AM PST

Hi, I am rather new to the laptop community. Truth be told, I'm a desktop guy. But I need a laptop. I know that laptops can be ultra-skinny and stuff, but I don't need that. This is a honest question, not rhteroical,: Is $450 too cheap for an okay laptop? I need one with at least 512MB memory and at least a 2.0 Ghz Processor. If anyone has any ideas or even pointing me in the right direction I would be obliged. I don't need a actual video card, internal will do fine, same with audio. If it had wireless internet, that would be nice. Thank you all in advance.

Disregard my red-m.

I picked up 2 Athlon 64 with everything but the DVD recorder for the office for 720 and 829 respectively. The 2.0 GHz was the more expensive and the other was not shabby 1.8 GHz but had a nice widescreen.

The rest were 512 MB, CDRW/DVD, XP Home (and restore CDs), 60 GB hard disk, Bluetooth, Wifi, USB 2.0, Firewire, S-Video out, SD/MMC/SM memory card slot and so on.

The crew loves them and I hope to get a few more soon.

These things should survive the 64-bit Tsunami.

Thank You Bob. Wow, nice laptops for that price. Where exactly did you get the laptops? I like the 64-bit part. What company where they from? I looked for 45 minutes but I could not found ones even near your specs for that price. Thank You Again. You seem like a contributor to many forums. A few months ago I your posted on one of my other questions. Thank You Again Bob.

These were from compgeeks.com. I hear newegg.com has some too.

Oh, did I mention they have S-video out ethernet and I think a DVI connector? They are desktop type replacements, but we've seen heavier and worse heat producers. This don't seen to have any hot spots.

Thank You Again, Bob. I hopefully should have the laptop within a few weeks or so. Oh, they have DVI and s-video. High Tech Video, for a laptop. Thank You Again.

Cheap

Laptops under $1000 are reletivly cheap. It also depends on what processor you're talking about. For a Pentium M, 2.0 is considered Dothan. For Pentium 4, 2.0 is quite low. AMD processors are a different story.
