I left my Note5 on the table overnight and i suddenly wont boot. I can tap the home button when its on charge and can see how much it has charged, but it wont boot up.

And it won't turn on under a certain charge level. So let it get to 50%
Then press and hold the power button a little longer. Mine isn't instant on when the battery ran out. I have to charge then turn it on with a longer press.
The Note 5 is over 2 years old or more so it's unlikely to be in warranty.
I take it you want a DIY attempt at solving. After watching a few battery removal videos like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPbSLAW6rY8 I feel this is not for the average user.
Time for the everyperson method. Go get some rubber bands and get the phone button button to stay down for a long time. Don't get over zealous on rubber bands to the point of crushing the phone. Just leave it without power for 10 minutes with the button down and then remove the bands.
Plug in power and see if you can get a power up. If not, it's dead and time to call the company that sold it.
Occasionally I run into folk that won't try the usual tech tricks. Maybe you can share why it won't work? Is the phone broken and missing the power button?

I'm working this with the information given. There are videos on changing the battery.
Be sure you use another charger and cable to be sure it's not the phone.
Do you think that im taking the right path? Because ive tried all of those button combinations like hold power button and volume up at the same time, but none of those work. Is replacing the battery the solution?
Phones in such condition can have other issues. I can't tell if you tried the rubber band trick or not.
To me it's worth the risk of under 15 dollars to find out.

While I didn't ask, are you sure this situation doesn't change when you try another cable and charger?
Ive used multiple cables and chargers, its the same with all of them. No charge. And I actually have used the rubber band trick.
But cheap to try a new battery. I've seen Samsung phones power up with 20+ percent so I worry it's not the battery. Only you know how it was treated. Drops and such can really take a toll.
