Can not connect using DSL/CONNECT, but still getting online???

Win XP home, sp2, and DSL connection. FireFox browser.

http://www.grc.com/default.htm for SHIELDS UP

I ran a SHIELDS UP / ALL SERVICE PORTS, test and only "Solicited TCP Packets" failed.

I then installed DI 604 router and rebooted, then logged on to the internet. ( Only one computer. )

Ran SHIELDS UP / ALL SERVICE PORTS, test again and this time "Solicited TCP Packets" and "Ping Reply" failed.

Did some checking and found in NETWORK CONNECTIONS that DSL was disconnected even though I was connected to internet. Before I installed the router, I HAD to click DSL/CONNECT to get on the internet. Somehow hooking up the router, I was able to bypass the DSL connect.

NOT sure this is a good thing??

When I click CONNECT on DSL, after about a minute, I get "Error Conection to DSL. Error 678, remote computer did not respond... etc."

I can get online without DSL connect, but am not sure if this is a good thing.

Should I try NETWORK CONNECTIONS, "New Connection Wizard" or "Network Setup Wizard" to see it this changes anything?

All suggestions appreciated?

Thanks

Ben

What is DSL Connect???

Why you need that in the first place?

as with the Shield-up test report, the good result is, All Port should be STEALTH or CLOSED.

Icon on desktop DSL,...
Feb 1, 2006 4:34AM PST

Prior to installing D Link router, had to click on DSL icon, window popped up with CONNECT, click CONNECT to get online. ( I like this feature because I would not be online unless I wanted to be )

Since I installed the router, DSL icon no good, and I am online when I boot, unless I had clicked "STOP ALL TRAFFIC" on Kerio personal firewall, prior to my shutting down the computer.

"as with the Shield-up test report, the good result is, All Port should be STEALTH or CLOSED."

I am aware of that, that is why I posted the original question, seems like I lost protection instead of gaining after router was installed.???
