Question

Not Sound After installing A software

Dec 28, 2014 10:23AM PST

On my dual boot Dell laptop, I installed a software, Cheese, to let a webcam working in my Linux Mint 7. I also made a new file under the Linux installation to make webcam compatible with Skype. Afterward, I notice that there isn't output sound from speakers or headphone.

I log in the Windows 7 and find the same problem. I have checked all things related with sound I can think of and find no problems. The volume is on and it is not muted. The sound device is able and functioning properly. When I tried to updated the driver, I am told that it is the latest one. The diagnosis procedure finds no problem. The pre-boot diagnosis yields the same conclusion. After uninstalling the audio device driver, it is reinstallled by Windows update automitically.

How to solve the problem?

Answer
System restore

Hello,
Have you tried system restore on windows 7? You can restore your computer to a time before the installation of "cheese." I am not familiar with linux, so I am not sure if there is some sort of system restore option available there. If that doesn't work, you can try running drivermax, or another driver detection program to find the proper driver (I have had pretty good luck with drivermax when it comes to updating drivers).
Good luck,
Tanner

If it doesn't work in Windows nor in Linux, and it used to work before, it's not unlikely it's a hardware issue. An easy way to check that is by booting from a Linux Live disk and see if it has sound there.
