Not recognizing Cd-r/rw
Feb 18, 2006 2:41PM PST

I am a bit of a novice but I had the same problem with my cd-rom when I updated,it seems that when some system files are updated some devices don't work correctly.Perhaps you might check to see if there is an updated driver.Yesterday I tried to copy something on a relative's computer and the CD burner won't do it,computer told me it could not.after replacing a driver for another problem the cd burner started to work,my own computer does not recognise the cdrom, some days it does not show up in the device driver list at all and would not open.My computer is older and it seems that after updating to XP the cdrom had problems,See if an updated driver is available for the version you are running

Not Recognizing?
Feb 19, 2006 12:36PM PST

What exactly do you mean by that? Is the CD-RW drive not "seen" by Windows? Is it found in "My Computer"? Is it found in the "Device Manager"? Did you install all firmware and software that came with the computer?

Or does it not recognize CD disks when you place them in the drive? Do you have burning software installed? If so, what type?

Hope this helps and let us know more.

not even there

The cdrw isn't showing up anywhere. Ive looked at the system files my computer and just about everywhere U can look to find it and nothings there. I figured if I reinstall windows ME than it would recognize it through the hardware setup. But that didn't work either. I'm stumped

Sounds Like The Drive Is Bad..

If you've installed the firmware that came with the drive, then it should be recognized in Windows ME..If it's not, then the hardware is probably bad..That might explain why you were "given" the CD-RW in the first place.

Hope this helps.

System recognition.

If devices are recognized as attached peripherals they will be listed as resident on the "System Configuration Summary" (BIOS Startup Screen) at boot. Press the Pause key as soon as you see this screen start displaying so it can be stopped and read (sometimes you may have to press Esc just before if you're a little slow and it goes past or the thumbs get in the way). Press any other key to continue. If the CMOS/BIOS does not recognize and display peripheral information on this screen, Windows certainly will not.
