Not Enough System Resources.....

Mar 14, 2004 1:57AM PST

I am using Windows 98. I am getting this message - can anyone tell me if this generally means a RAM issue? I also have a problem when I click on a desktop icon - I am getting multiple programs opening - ie: I click "My Computer" and it opens ALONG with my browser and any other program I have run recently. I have run all the Norton programs looking for a virus or other issue.

Regards

The memory pools called resources. As there was no fix for this limitation, the owner has to take care not to load too many things at once and more.

Read the Memory and Optimizing Windows Articles at http://www.aumha.org/articles.htm to learn all about this.

The OTHER issue can be PARASITES. "am getting multiple programs opening - ie: I click "My Computer" and it opens ALONG with my browser and any other program I have run recently." is a sign you may have PESTS which are not a virus so Norton doesn't deal with it. Here's my usual Anti-Parasite note:

Parasite removal programs.

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 notes the five scanning tools and removal tools that are fairly safe. If one does encounter an issue, its always been damage done by the MALWARE. The most common issue being Layered Service Provider replacement which you can use LSPFIX (Hint: use http://www.google.com to find).

The thread has follow on discussions about new links if you don't want to use Google to find an item.

Bob

PS. All the tools are free.

I appreciate your help - you helped me once before - about one week ago. I am having so much trouble, I am about to trash the computer and get a new one - with XP on it.
Question: Do you feel 98 is problem prone?? I did the various actions and things are much better - however, I think maybe my problems arise out of the Palm software - for an older Palm Pilot. When I "remove" that software, things run much better. Does this make sense??

I don't think W98 is your problem. More likely, as Bob suggested, you have malware/spyware or a bug of some type on your computer. Anti-virus programs do not catch these malware programs. I use "Spybot: Search & Destroy" to prevent these. There are also other good programs of this type but I like Spybot because it seems to be the best at catching these programs as they try to enter my computer.
