Forget neatness when dealing with a messed up network. I've seen perfectly functioning networks downed by such work. On top of that, don't let folk in the closets that are not ready to deal with the failures.
I had a very messy wiring closet for our school network. Over the last couple of days, I unplugged all patch cables that connect to our switches so I could organize them. I did this and it looks much better. In the process, I shut down out 2 servers, unplugged all the switches, etc. to re-route the wires. I plugged every back in but now our computers are not connecting to our network. They have internet access but instead of saying its connected to our domain, it says Network 3 or Network 4. We cannot print to our networked computers or access our file server. The servers are up and running and they both say they are connected to the domain. 2 computers I have in the wiring closest also are connected to the domain, but other computers around the building just say the Network 3 or 4. Is there something I have hooked up incorrectly? A server issue? an easy fix for any of this? We are a very small school and I do not have much of a networking background. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
