Not able to open downloads

Feb 11, 2010 1:51PM PST

After I download a file, whether it be from an email or a download site, it will not open no matter what I do. I was told I may have a virus in the Internet Explorer, which I want to get rid of IE and use Firefox anyway. I have tried several tech supports and NO ONE knows what to do. Please help.

Give us more detail on this

"After I download a file, whether it be from an email or a download site, it will not open no matter what I do"
1. an example of a file that refused to open
2. how did you try to open it?
3. did it give an error message and what was the message?
4. if you have one of these files that won't open, right click on it and tell us what is at the top of the menu.
