Sep 11, 2005 4:37AM PDT

Been trying all day, exhausted!!

Bought computer 5-6 weeks ago. bought the above today and have been unable to install it. Keep getting the following message.

"encountered an error, unable to continue. visit www.symantec.com/install" without any help at all.

The CD Rom scanned my computer and found no viruses but was unable to continue.

Can you help, pleeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzeeeeee.

Looks like a warranty issue.

Since everything is new, call them and have them set it right.

Just sharing, I use Free AVG and ZoneAlarm so I don't have to deal with Symantec's support. But you paid, so get your money's worth.

Toss it back?

Seems to be a recurring issue. Get your money back and try something free like Free AVG and Zone Alarm.

Toss it out. Try what I use.

1. Free AVG
2. Zone Alarm. (free version.)
3. Weekly scans with Ewido and Housecall.
4. Don't use Internet Explorer unless under duress.

Please, ZoneAlarm is BAD!
Oct 10, 2006 5:33PM PDT

Really, everything else is okay but ZoneAlarm is such a bad piece of kit, at least I think so. I use McAfee 8 along with a few other free spyware tools and they cover the whole thing for me.

Please take that to our Security Forum.

They'll love to talk about that there.

Serious.

Take that to a forum that discusses such things.

If not I'll have to take it you are not serious.

But I often misread you - I'm interpreting aggression in that post, do you mean you will delete the post and move it, or simply urge me to create a new discussion - I;m off anyway.

McAfee?

is just as bad..

Zonealarm is ok for me on Windows 9x and 2000 -- it doesnt like XP for me. BSOD in fact. AVG is great, and I like Comodo too.

How do I download Norton Internet Security onto Windows 98. It always tells me that it has encountered an error.

Try this.

Post on the Windows 98 Forum and our Security Forum since this is not the 98 forum.

Alternatives to Norton, worth reading
Oct 10, 2006 5:34PM PDT

Norton is so ineffective you'd be better off with a free version of AVG, and under the best circumstances AVG Pro or McAfee.

McAfee?

Righto.

Or dont use an AV. Or, something simple like AVG.

AVs operate at full administrator privelages and can provide a gateway into a system, henceforth why I dont like using one. You can always use Housecall if you want to scan.
