General discussion

Ann Coulter is in the news again. (Full disclosure: I'm neutral, of course, but she is hot! Happy )
Out of curiosity I went to the Wikipedia link, and found these items, easily visible on the same screen:

"Ann Hart Coulter (born December 8, 1961) ..."
"Born: December 8, 1941 (1941-12-0Cool (age 65)..."

Anyone remember our thread about the reliability of Wikipedia?

......Wikipedia doesn't have the double birth-dates.

Maybe somebody made the correction, which often happens there.

Otherwise, anything I I would be moved to say about the subject would have to be deleted. Happy

"which often happens there."

Yes, and that's a supposed advantage of such a work. BUT...

How long was it there? She is very much in the news because of [TOPIC DELETED], so I can't have been the first person to see the "typo".

I wonder if we could stage a race between Wikipedia posters on one side, and the Britannica people issuing an online patch for an error in their CD on the other.

I wonder if there are any errors in the CD to use ...

The 4 in 1941 looks like a typo...

I would not argue the reliability or lack thereof based on one mistyped character.

Look out for Ann. She's a rascal and

just might change it to '71.

The entries have just come back from the crime lab,

and you're right! In her hurry she typed "4" vice "7", and the Dems jumped in and entered the logical "65". Egg on her face, I'll bet.

Whatever happened to just holding picnics and kissing babies?

BTW to prove my neutral creds,

Pelosi is hot, too.

Nope, wasn't that kind of accident.

"1941" would make her 65; a true typo- not worth posting about, I agree- would have claimed age 45 for the same wrong year. (Or 1961 and 65 years old, e.g.)

I saw it in an instant, and I'm not a professional in the field. "Real" references have people assigned just to looking for for these types of errors.

Anyway, I now have a show-and-tell for my schoolkids who use Wikipedia instead of pulling those "heavy" Britannica and World Book volumes off the shelves.

Not so....

The age is an automatically calculated value. only the birth date is entered in the field. That way the age is always up to date as birthdays occur. Imagine if the editors of Wiki had to login everyday and update the ages of everyone having birthdays that day. On any day that there weren't enough voluteers to update they'd never catch up with the missed work.

Now check a professional reference

to see how those editors long ago solved that problem for their 'cast in cement' print versions.

In any case, a Wiki editor would have seen the true (and logical*) birthdate on the page s/he was editing (which includes hottie pic). Then (if you're correct about Wiki being an Excel-type system) s/he would see the incorrect (and illogical) age. As I said, it jumped out at me, and I'm not a pro.

*Nobody 65 and/or born 1941 can be "hot".
