Sorry, Rob, the China system isn't news.

Part of one's rating there is economic responsibility, avoidance of corruption, which is endemic there. That's good government, right?
Don't ask about the lovely and talented Fan Binbing, whose official rating is zero.

"We cannot allow this to happen to us"
Sep 23, 2018 1:08PM PDT

I didn't see the show, but I understand that people wanted to be part of that system. As they do now. No compulsion needed.
The rest seems like the usual Breitbart scare stuff.
"Algorithmic governance"? How will that be worse than the present governments?
And ... if you're innocent, you have nothing to fear ...
BBC had an excellent film on this very topic, superior to American TV's usual. No car chases, just plain scariness. Nobody won. Interesting hook: Someone developed a drug for something. Not only did it have harmful side effects, covered up by Conspirators, but it caused Arab ethnics to exude a slight scent. As a result, sensors could be mounted in public, to track their movements. The script made good use of the existing camera system in Britain.

My input, not that it counts much.

I worked as a designer (hardware and software) for a few companies that manufactured CCTV gear. England was a big buyer of their products. I was always amazed at how much product the company sold into England.

For the USA market almost all the products couldn't have microphone or audio capability. No problem for England, Asia, EU areas.

Let what happen? The lemming-like move to social media shaming and idolizing? Already here; no bills needed to be passed.
Big data gathering? Done.
Breitbart-scare stuff.
Why not try algorithm governance? What could go wrong?

For what it's worth

Hi - I created the above referenced infographic about the Sesame Score.

This may or may not matter to you, however I'm personally a pretty hard left-leaning designer, however the detail that I extracted was based entirely on the supplied links - chief amongst which was an English translation of the Chinese policy document itself.

I've obviously made the mistake of presenting the information in a way that seems alarmist to you, however that's more due to my sense of drama and storytelling.

None of the information presented has actually been embellished, however. It's all legitimate use case, and it's important to really emphasise the fact that the government themselves can, have and will use the system to silence dissidents.

Thanks for chiming in!

I did not take it as such. Some of my prior jobs include design work in surveillance products. I want to be clear I was in the design team so we heard what folks wanted than say a salesperson.

-> Why I shared this here is we must be aware or we fall victim to such systems.

Note: Autocorrected word corrected.

My point, Rob, with which I think you agree,
Oct 3, 2018 10:22PM PDT

is that many [most?] already have.

First, I understood the information to be taken
Oct 3, 2018 10:21PM PDT

seriously by many, if not by you. And it is.
Second, my point is valid regardless. People are involved in destroying their own privacy, without a gun to their heads or being fooled by Conspirators. The modern version of bread and circuses.
Just now come MSM reports that the Saudi Crown Prince is extending his physical reach against dissidents to outside his country. Following Putin's lead in that regard.
As I told Proffitt earlier, none of this is new. Bad government has been around for some time [Ec 8:9,11, which predates Langston Hughes' cogent question about a raisin in rhe sun. Good news, though. Ec 8:12.]
Without bothering to suss your political leanings, I did appreciate your work.
