Norton System Works 2004

Feb 12, 2004 1:50AM PST

I remember seeing on this forum a warning about all
kinds of problems people were having with Norton
System Works 2004. I can't find it now, but there was
a link to a discussion in which there were all these
complaints and horror stories.

My question is, does anyone know if the issues have
been resolved by Symantec so that it's safe to upgrade
to the 2004 version of SW?

Thanks,

~Dave

Many years ago I nailed down an issue with this product and Windows ME. While Windows ME was the b___ of many jokes, the issue continued to exist in 2001, 2002, 2003 and maybe beyond that versions.

Something has happened to Symantec's quality control and the company seems to have taken to more product marketing than product substance.

It's just me writing here that you don't need this product.

Ok thanks. I take that to mean they have not addressed
the issues which were reported.

Symantec did post such on their support site, but failed to warn Windows ME owners of the problem in the next few years products.

The damage was simple. People would pay to have the OS reloaded due to the bug because that would fix it. There was a real way to recover, but to continue to sell the product and keep the bug over 3 years seems like something didn't get back to Symantec on the issue.

So while I did like the product 2000 and prior, I have yet to swing to the position that its a product worth buying.

In short, ignore my little red "M" on this subject since I take a dim view when such behaviour is found.

I use NSW 2003 and it is working great. Good thing because there is no bigger nightmare then having to uninstall NSW and reinstall it. For some reason, the uninstall sometimes leaves files and this created problems for me. If your version is working OK, why upgrade?

I have NSW 2003 as well and it seems to work great as
well. But I do remember there being a thread on this
forum warning of 2004 specifically. It even had a link
to another forum where all the comotion was going on.
I connot find it now, though. I was just wondering if
anything was ever done to fix the software. That's all.

I'm sure it was a forum on CNET, I just don't know which one.
