NORTON INTERNET SECURITY INSTALLATION PROBLEM

Feb 18, 2004 8:29AM PST

I tried to install NIS 2004 (version Windows 2000/me/xp)and during installation I got this message "windows cannot find c:\program files\norton internet security\norton antivirus\navapsvc.exe".

Then I tried to uninstall but it failed. Then I removed NIS from add/remove programme. But when I click start>all programmes still NIS and NAV is listing.

What shall I do

Re:NORTON INTERNET SECURITY INSTALLATION PROBLEM is a PC Hardware issue?

More clues needed to find out why you feel the hardware is at issue.

In closing, NIS 2004 is a MIS-FIRE release and many report problems. You should get FREE SUPPORT on this or ask for you money back.

In the meantime, use Free AVG from http://www.grisoft.com and if you run Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, go get ZoneAlarm.

I had a similar problem with Norton Anti virus. Turned out the system had gotten a virus previously, that had damaged a number of system files, they had to be deleted to remove the virus but then a re-install of norton failed due to a file being missing, but the error message didn't tell us the right file (as yours may not).

The only way to resolve the error message was to do a Repair-Reinstall of the Windows Operating system over the existing version, once that was done the error went away and the software installed just fine.

Did you previously get a serious virus and are now installing this to try and protect yourself in the future?

You need to run a Virus checker first. You can go to http://housecall.antivirus.com and run a web based virus check. That may allow you to clean up the system so you can then install the other software.
