Norton Internet Security-and what else?

I have NIS and I'd like to have something else too. Something that won't interfere with the NIS (such as Windows Defender does). I'm interested in being able to scan for adware, spyware and viruses. NIS is my MAIN tool, but I'd feel more comfortable with something else as well.
I just came across a Microsoft product called "Malicious Software Removal Tool" and according to Microsoft this program isn't a replacement for an anti-virus program (which is fine; I mainly rely on my NIS).
I'm just looking for something else to use with my Norton IS.
Thank you for any replies.

In reply to: My dad has NIS 2006 and uses

I used Spybot on my last computer and it worked really well..I forgot about that one (it's been a long time since I had a new computer!). I've heard of Spyware Blaster but never tried it, so I'll check it out.
Thanks a bunch!
