Norton GoBack issue

Apr 9, 2005 10:50AM PDT

Writing for my parents, actually. Hoping I can get it all down correctly.

They are running Windows XP SP2. Dad just installed Norton Systemworks 2005 about 2 weeks ago. They are getting the following message upon boot-up:

"Warning! The Norton Goback AutoBack buffer is now 73% full. Once this reaches 100%, the computer will automatically restore to the Autoback time." They can Close or "Disable AutoBack."

I have this program too, but never got that message. I tried to research it on the net, but can't find anything specific enough...or that I would understand

Any help, direction, or insight would be appreciated.

Thank you.

As far as I know, having Go Back and system restore running at the same time causes problems.

Disable AutoBack

Hi,

This is a message from Symantec.

It sounds like the AutoBack feature was somehow enabled on your parents' computer. This feature is not normally used in a home environment, so your parents don't really need it enabled.

Once AutoBack is disabled, your parents will still have full protection and functionality from Norton GoBack.

There are three ways to disable AutoBack:
- Disable AutoBack from the warning message that pops up.
- Upon booting up, hit the space bar and click on the option to disable AutoBack.
- In Windows, launch Norton GoBack. Select options and then the AutoBack tab. Select "Disable AutoBack."

We use Goback in an organization environment and we are getting the same message concerning the message. Is there some way to reset that message?

Norton GoBack

I have NSW Premier 2005 installed on my PC, but I strongly recommend to have the Norton GoBack uninstalled.

This sofware consumes a lot of space out of your hard disk and is not worth the trouble.

For back-up purposes, I have installed Norton Ghost 9 and my back-ups are systematically stored on DVD's, provided you personally have a DVD burner.

Many other softwares similar to Norton GoBack perform almost the same and I strongly dislike them all.

Good Luck!

I second on "thumb down" to Norton GoBack and...

also vote for Norton GHOST v.9 (not before).

You might asked why I pick one product over the other even it from the same company?

The answer is: Because both products are bought (company merger) into Symantec and Symantec GHOST v.9 is a better product than GoBack.

I even tried GoBack one time (on my testing machine) and beleive it or not, it screwed up my boot partition so bad which forced me to repartition + formatted the whole disk.
