Norton Ghost clone?

Aug 1, 2006 10:29PM PDT

Hi,

I used Norton Ghost 2003 to clone my main HD to a backup HD. The clone looks like it cloned all the files but the Windows XP pro Op system won't start. It gets to the Windows splash screen and just stops.

Main Hd-WD 80G WD80JB,
Backup HD-WD40G WD40JB, jumper set as slave.

Also using OSL bootloader utility on the Main drive.

I formatted the Backup drive before starting.
Cleaned and defraged the main drive before hand.

I did a search on this forum for this topic but didn't find this particular problem,

Also searched Norton online but nothing to help.

Thanks for any help
Ted

Do you really want to use the 40GB as a bootsasble backup drive or as a drive to store backup images ?

(NT) 40 g bootable?
Aug 2, 2006 8:28PM PDT

Vapcmd,

I had intended to use it as a bootable drive but after serious consideration I realized I just need a backup to store away for the day when something goes wrong.

Ok, after cloning my main with Ghost I restarted my system with the backup drive and it hung on the windows start screen. So then I decided to try again with the main drive unhooked. Same deal.

Now, I read an article where someone says after cloning,do not try to restart the clone with the other main drive still attached. Too late, already did that.

So now I unhook the clone and try to start main drive and It will not start alone. Only when I have both drives attached will my main start up.

Thanks for any help
Ted
