Norton Firewall Blocks SBC DSL connection

Sep 21, 2005 12:23PM PDT

Hi

I have Norton Internet Security 2004 and SBC Yahoo DSL on a laptop running windows XP SP2. When I try to log onto SBC, I either get an error that the IP address could not be established or if I get in, I can't view sites using the SBC browser. If I use IE 6.0 I can surf fine. Also if I can get a connection, on Norton under Statistic, it shows the IP addess I am connected to as intrusion attempts. Called SBC and figured out the Norton firewall is blocking the connection. When it is disabled, everything works fine. How do I configure the firewall to let me connect? I tried the program scan and SBC broswer is listed to permit all.
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

and get rid of Norton Security. While I'm a firm believer and loyal purchaser of NAV, their firewall is a royal PITA. Download and install Zone Alarm free. Super simple, super effective.

My father-in-law just got SBC DSL. I installed ZA on his machine, rebooted, ZA saw the connection, asked for permission, I allowed it, done.

I've installed the Zone Alarm and haven't had any problems so far. Norton wanted $30 bucks to help me, but ZoneAlarm is free, so thanks for the tip.

i recently installed zone alarm on my desktop because i wanted to test some new antivirus/firewall/antispy software. anyways, i am a sbc dsl user and i uninstalled the sbc protection software because i couldn't install zone alarm with it installed. however when i installed zone alarm, the internet on my desktop would not register and i haven't been able to use the internet on it. however all the laptops and wireless connections in my house still work.

i have no idea what the problem is. do you know a solution to this?
