Norton Antivirus 2005/windows firewall

by slybo / October 28, 2004 7:21 PM PDT

I have Norton Antivirus 2004 and am using windows firewall sp2. I also use AOL Spyware Protection. I will be upgrading to Norton 2005 in the near future and have been reading about it. I am confused about the internet worm protection it comes with. It sounds like it is a firewall this worm protection. Will it work with the windows firewall or will windows firewall have to be turned off? Will using the Norton worm protection be better than windows firewall? Just want some information before I install it. I looked on their site and did not find much. Thanks Sly

Do not depend on Internet Worm Protection of NAV 2005 to act as a firewall.

If you will install NAV 2005 and has other firewall (3rd party or XP Firewall), disable Internet Worm Protection. I suggest that you temporary disable the other firewall before installing NAV 2005. After installating NAV, disable Internet Worm Protection then enable your 3rd party or XP Firewall.

Use other firewall program/application such as Outpost or ZoneAlarm which will monitor incoming/outgoing traffics. XP Firewall will monitor incoming traffic only. Your choice Wink

I purchased NAV 2005, and installed. It does not affect the Windows Firewall in any way. I also run many other spyware/adware programs on my computer, and they all seem compatible
