Norton anti virus and Windows

Mar 20, 2004 10:04PM PST

Hello,

My NAV screwed up my win2000 completely. Every opening of a program now means that I must " cancel" Win installer several times to get to the application. I've tried to remove Norton, but it won't let me. Using Regedit has helped slightly, but I can't get the last entries out either. I want' to reinstal Windows, but need to get this sorted out first.. Any tips on removing Norton properly ??

Actually the installer starting all the time was a side effect from Office if I recall.

You can fix this, but for me to find the relevant KB article I need your help with the "quoted" message from that installer starting box.

The two sites I find your issue (and cure) are:

http://www.google.com
http://support.microsoft.com

Outside of NAV 2004, I haven't seen a big issue with NAV.

It say's :

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-rom or other removeable disk. Insert disk and bla bla bla.
It then say's it's looking for "Product Name" + LABEL in capitals.like this : [ProductName] LABEL.

Before I tried to remove it from the registry, it was looking for NAV.msi.

Any help with this ??

Just be clear.

Without exact "quoted" messages, I can't give an exact answer. Some want exact answers.

For you, with what you've provided, I can write that the issue is known, a cure is known, but which issue/cure is elusive given your post.

Did you try the search sites I provided?

Example of an article about the installer starting: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=304107

In closing, I noted about a VERSION of NAV, which can have a bearing on the problem. And let me duplicate this message that is just above the Message entry when you post here:
"Tip: If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution."

Bob, I supplied exactly what you asked, but I'm not a computer whiz kid. Will contact local reatailer. He can make a fortune off me, as usual. thanks anyway.

When I ask directly...

Sometimes, people take as rude when I ask for the particulars. For instance I re-read your post and I know I did strongly hint that the VERSION of NAV could play into the issue and cure.

As to answering my question, you may have, but without telling the versions and such of NAV and Office, I can't give you exact reading material on how to fix the issue.

It's like taking your car to the dealer, but yours is a 1947 Ford Sedan and you didn't tell them the year and you get the idea.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606 tells how to complete remove NAV.

HERE'S WHAT I USE without issue -> Free AVG from http://www.grisoft.com

In closing, if you have NAV 2004, then I'd ask for a refund.

PPS,

Just reinstalled Office2000 Premium, as suggested on Support at Mickeysoft. No use. Still get Installer that first askes for product name, and after that for NAV.msi.

Okay,
i've got a win2000 proffesional, office 2000 premium. A 450 Mhz processor, 395 Ram memory. The NAV is 2003. Win 2000 is running without service packs. Hows this......

If nor enough, let me know. A complete re-install will work wonders. Format C always does the trick, unfortunately a lot of work Sad
