Norton

I was running Norton Internet Security Suite and I never really liked it. I bought the subscription without really knowing what I was getting into. Well, tonight, Norton comes up with a dialog box while I was scanning my computer with EWIDO, saying it has had some sort of fatal error and I need to uninstall it and reinstall it. Well, I'd rather just uninstall it and forget Norton all together. So, I have read all over about AVG and I downloaded the free trial of AVG+firewall. However, I thought this was free. Was I incorrect in this assumption? What do you all think of AVG? Anything out there better?
I also, as spyware stuff, run AdAware, SpySweeper and EWIDO...I know that seem paranoid, but one program catches what others don't and vice versa. Anyway, thanks for any advice or comments...Happy
