Northgate Computers

Aug 18, 2004 4:49PM PDT

Does anyone have anything to say on Northgate computers? I looked in the papers and their desktop Athlon packages weren't badly priced. I don't have a lot of money and don't have any experience in buying a computer. help

They have been in this game for over 10 years. Best of luck,

THEY ARE A PIECE OF CRAP! My son (16) saved his money to buy a new computer, we bought it from Staples who told us it was basically the same as any other computer because it had all the components. My son used it for about 3 weeks with no problems, then it froze up and would not do anything upon start. We even tried to insert the recovery disk and it would not even read that. We took it back to staples and exchanged it for another. I am now on hold with Northgate because upon turning on the computer the first time it will not boot up and will again not let us install the recovery CD. If we have to take it back again I will ask for a full refund and will purchase a Dell on his behalf!

I tried northgate because I thought and heard they were a good deal. That was a mistake!! I bought one and it constantly froze and wouldn't let me up load programs such as Norton Antivirus (something that should easily upload). So I brough this one back and actually got the upgraded version for the same price because it went on sale. This computer was just as big as a joke as the first. It also constantly froze why I tried to play DVD's or streaming videos. The sound would also cut out often and the only way to fix it was to use the recovery cd. You should not have to constanly recover brand new computer. I tried to call northgate for service help five times and never got through once. I left a message and they never returned my call. Talking to another service through staples, I was told that he had 2X the complaints about northgate than HP, Dell and Compaq combined. When it comes to cars and computers....go with what you know
